Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and to diving. My husband and I tried in while on vacation in the Bahamas, and now are looking to take classes to get certified --I can't wait@@!
Any recommendations for a good place to do that? We live and work in downtown Chicago..

Ana.

Welcome (Scub)aBoard!

Hello Ana,

it’s about time you surfaced here! :)

Click [thread=91105]here[/thread] for ScubaBoard 101: [thread=91105]A beginner's guide to the ScubaBoard.Com forums[/thread].

Don’t forget to fill out your Public Profile (and Dive Info) on one of your next surface intervals so we can get to know you a little bit better. Besides, it will make it easier for us to answer your questions. Please, do add a Profile Pic. If you’re not in a particularly creative mood, you can have a look at my Public Profile for inspiration.

Check with your local Dive Maniacs for a good place to get certified: ScubaBoard > Regional Travel & Dive Clubs > North America > United States > Great Lakes Wrecking Crew.

Any other questions? Just click this link: Send me a PM!

Howdy and welcome to SB!

That's the way I started, with a Resort dive in the Carib.

Good to have you here. Click here to PM me if I can help you get started in our various forums.

Moved from Introductions & Greets.

Scuba Emporium is a good place on the south side. Scuba Systems is a good place on the north side of Chicago. I haven't heard either good nor bad about Underwater Safaris in the city. [SHAMELESS PLUG]If you are willing to come out to the western suburbs, I can teach you.[/SHAMELESS PLUG] :)

You might want to meet some other people in the area too. Try and get involved with the scuba meetup group in Chicago. Link down below. People of all skill levels there. You and husband would be more than welcome! :-)

Living and working downtown...Jean and the staff at Underwater Safaris is certainly the most convenient. All my training has been done with this shop, however, there are also several dive shops just outside of the city including Scuba Systems in Skokie, Elmer's Watersports in Evanston and D.D. Dive Shop in Glenview to name a few.

Look around, talk to the instructors and go with your gut.

Yeah, and welcome to the board...I'm sure others will begin to chime in.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the suggestions. I will follow up on them, and hopefully soon will have my training completed ;-)
