If you don't mind venturing out to the suburbs, I highly recommend Bruce at Underseas in Villa Park (www.underseas.com). They offer quite a number of training classes from the traditional weekday to weekend sessions. They have been very helpful with gear and pricing, and are a great LDS.

try IID in glendale heights they are NAUI CERTIFIED Owners name is john perhay. they have dive picnics at haigh quarry throughout the summer and underwater pumpkin carving at halloween. The instructors are very thorough and patient. Look up websight Illinois Institute of Diving.

Correction: IID is located at 436 Roosevelt Rd in Glen Ellyn. That's the LDS I go through. It's a great shop and everyone is very helpful and friendly. Check out their website at www.800howdive.com.

Welcome ana_chicago,
Our World Underwater is a great place for new divers to check out gear & local dive shops. A few of us are getting together at the Hyatt on Feb. 25th.(see info below) Please feel free to stop by. Many of us will be meeting face to face, for the 1st time. It should be fun.

Dive clubs around Chicago can be a great way to get certified and find diving opportunities as well. The Illinois Council of Skin and Scuba Divers has 15 member local clubs around the Chicago area, a few of which offer certification courses. If you tell me what part of the city/suburbs you come from, I could probably put you in touch with a club in your neck of the woods. Or, you could go to the ICSSD website and find one for yourself.

Either way, happy diving!
