Hello all, my name is Nathan Cross. I've been dreaming of getting dive certified since I was very young and will finally be fulfilling that dream this January! I've finished the CW portion of my course and will be doing my OW at Homestead Crater in Utah coming up soon. Looking forward to being a part of the community!

Congratulations!
Welcome to scubaboard and diving!
Also, on your other used gear thread, don’t take any of our comments personally, we just don’t want to see you spend your money unwisely.
We might seem like old curmudgeons but we’re really not. There is a wealth of information here and a lot of people that have been diving a long time and really do have YOUR best interests in mind 👍. We just have a weird way if showing sometimes 😉

Hold it, this fascinates me. Is the Montana dive shop bringing people all the way to Utah for the checkout dives, or is this situation more along the lines of doing your dives on a vacation somewhere (that vacation being in Utah, in this case)?

It's a little of both. During the winter months my local dive shop goes down to Utah for their OW cause its the closest option for a warm water 60 foot dive. But my wife and I are also turning it into a vacation at the same time. Only about an 8 hour drive, which for us is pretty much an average commute

Congratulations!

I don't take offense. I might sit on that ad and see if hes willing to give it away just to get rid of it, but I'm not gonna go out of my way to go for it.

LIAR!!!

Well, I'm not THAT old .....

Weclome! I am a new SSI open water student. I just completed my pool sessions, and I'm going to the crater this Friday and Saturday for my open water. About 4 hour drive for me from St George, Utah. I booked a room at the Zermatt Utah Resort close to Homestead Crater. I'm a little nervous and excited at the same time. My instructor is good, his expectations are high though but that's good because it pushes me to be prepared. My biggest struggle is remembering exactly what order to do each task in. You get all your instruction at the surface, and once you go under the surface, it is rapid-fire execution of the skills, and you gotta remember what to do, and in what order. I have a hard time with memorization, so it's pushing me mentally! I realize instructors have different styles though and I'm glad he pushes me to do well. Good luck on your crater dive!

At least for my pool dive my instructors would give us instructions on the surface, then we would submerge and they would demonstrate the skill, and then give the students the signal to demonstrate the skill. I was nervous at first too, but my instructors quickly made it easy to learn each skill. Not sure if it'll be the same at the crater. Good luck on your dive!
