Hello all...I'm a new member. Have my advanced cert...just got it in the mail last night actually. Only been diving since Aug. 2002, but have about 50 dives under my belt..so I'm pretty comfortable. Looking to talk to all sorts of people, but if there is anyone in Chicago...it would be cool to chat.

Don't have my drysuit cert, but would love to hear more about diving in Lake Michigan as I have been toying with the idea of doing it myself. Guess I just can't bring myself to dive in freezing water with low viz, when I'm used to 80 degree water w/ 100+ viz.

However, I am definitely not opposed as there is no sense in not tapping an available resource.

Also gonna be in Pensacola, FL soon. Anybody diving there these days??

Let me know...

I will most likely do a couple dives in the Lake this year, but most of my diving will be at Haigh Quarry in Kankakee.

Maybe sometime in June or July we could do a couple dives there.....usually I go I just hang out with the OW classes. It would be nice to venture off and do other kind of dives.

If your not familiar with Haigh, you can check it out here..

You will find that Lake Michigan can be a plesent experience. There are charters going out of Winthrop Harbor almost daily...
Visibility can be near 100 ft and in the late summer it is not all that cold.

The Zebra Mussels have cleaned the lakes up quite nice. You did not mention what part of Chicago you are in. I lived in Lake Zurich for a year and dove with a couple of shops.
Chicago has a lot of vacation divers but you can find the "lets get wet because we can type" if you know where to look...

The LDS I frequent is in Hanover Park. We have a Dive Club that is planning lots of dives in the area this summer. A good way to meet potential dive buddies. If this is convenient for you and you want more info, let me know.

Hi scubagirl!

I'm new to this ,too. Matter fact, I tried to post this a second ago and somehow deleted it!!! I'm not that comp. literate, i guess.

I just signed up for a trip to Key Largo 5/31.
If you're interested the info is under the group trip heading, see Natasha's post.

I live in the SW burb's, by orland park. How bout you?
I've also considered using the :eek:Lake, but havn't tried a drysuit before.
Have a great day!

Hey Phoebe,

I'm from Crestwood, and will be starting classes
on the 14th.

We should keep in touch.

Hi crestwood!

What kind of classes are you going to take? I've been thinking about trying Nitrox. It's supposed to make you less tired and have longer bottom time. I need to read up on it and also my basic skills!!

Keep in touch! :)

Hey Phoebe, :)

I'm just starting out - getting my OW Cert.

How 'bout you ?

before I venture to Key Largo, I plan on doing alot
of local diving.

Do you have your AOW?

' cuz they just sunk the Straits of Macinack in
Lake Michigan, and I bet its pretty amazing.
I'de like to do it but I was told its a deep dive and you'de
need your AOW Cert.

Hope you enjoy your trip.

:)

Hi pjdc?

What's your name, those initials are hard to remember.
I have my aow, got it in 2000, but havn't been diving since! I need to brush up on skills.

I'd like to dive that wreck, but I should practice cold water first, maybe a quarry dive.

let me know when you fiish your classes, we could do a quarry, or the lake. It's all new to me, so I'll be learning about cold water diving, too. Did I ask what area you live in? I'm in Frankfort, for now. Probably moving in 6 mos. tyl-
