Hey Phoebe,

Its Phil.

I'm in Crestwood, near Midlothian.

I didn't know you were that far south when you said
you were near Orland. But thats ok too. :)

I would strongly suggest a refresher course
before take any other classes ... but you already
knew that didn't you. :)

if you want, when you're ready, I can give you the
name of my LDS where I'm taking classes.

Were you PADI or NAUI certified.

Yeah, from what I'm told I will be doing my OW Cert. Dives
at Haigh Quarry. Its not the tropics but in june, july it shouldn't
be that cold.

You should check out the thread in "Group trips - Chicago diving party". We are looking for 2 more divers for Saturday July 19th.
If your interested please let Reefraff know. If you'd like to dive both days, please feel free to, as I will still partake in the eating & drinking festivities w/ everybody on Saturday night

Hi Phil!

I'm PADI cert.
And I'm thinking of taking a refresher this summer.
But I haven't checked the class times yet.
There are 2 LDS around here, so I've no excuse!

Let me know how you like the quarry, I haven't been there yet, but jason (jpuskar on the board )said it was good.
TYL-

Do any of you remember a LDS called Berry Scuba? They had a place at Yorktown Shopping Center in Lombard. I bought quite a few things there, as they had pretty good prices. I haven't lived in Chicago since 1991, so they're probably gone now. Just wondering...
Kurt:confused:

These exchanges bring back memories of my early days diving in indoor swimming pools in winter and reservoirs in summer and fall. I grew up in the Chicago area (north shore) and first got interested in diving there, both from these experiences and Sea Hunt on the tube.

Those days are long gone since I moved to Santa Catalina Island decades ago and am a 15-mion walk (with gear) from the Casino Dive Park.

Dr. Bill

How could you give up our 4 seasons for Catalina?
Don't you miss the 40 below days with the wind whipping your skin off your face? And what about our summers...90 degrees w/ 85% humidity. Did I say 4 seasons, I mean 2 1/2 we don't have spring anymore and fall is only a couple weeks.

I lived in San Pedro for a year & I loved it. I mean LOVED IT! The weather was the best. I liked the people too. Everyone warned me I'd only meet kooks-not true. The best neighbors I ever had were in Ca.

Kurt,
There's a LDS in Palatine called Berry. I'm not sure if they are owned by the same person, if they moved to Palatine or it's just a coincidence.

Did a Try Scuba in Maui in Feb and got hooked.

Finished OW 5/11 in Key Largo, FL (Kelly's on the Bay - highly recommended) Made a trip to Gilboa two weekends ago ( 3 dives), and WhiteStar (1 dive) this past weekend after the accident at Gilboa.

Planning on heading to Pearl Lake for this weekends Demo Days and taking AOW at Haigh next weekend with IID.

New to Chicago (July 2002) and looking for some local buddies for weekend diving. (Or the weeknight excursion through Underwater Safaris) I'm downtown - a three iron from Lake Michigan.

I've got 10 dives under my belt and looking to actively add more experience. Thanks for reading....

I think you answered your own question! Chicago has but two seasons IMO... tolerable and intolerable. The first is the few nice weeks of autumn/Indiuan summer when the thunderstorms aren't raging, the other is everything else! Last time I lived there Chicago recorded its coldest day in history, -81 F with the wind chill. Although I went out and walked two miles in it, I never want to repeat that experience.

Give me the soCal life where I can dive any day I want (almost) and there are seasons underwater!

Dr. Bill

I'm not so sure about the tolerable. We are still in the 60s-which is cold for June:( I think summer is going to be mighty short this year.
