How much would it cost for you to take your reg somewhere and get it drilled and tapped? I forgot those in Taiwan are supposed to work for free....

First let me say that, although I have never met Chris, I have followed his posts on SB since his days with Oceanic, and he seems to be an upstanding guy and a straight shooter. He has some interesting ideas, and I sincerely hope that his new venture is extremely successful. If I were not currently knee deep in Aqualung, Apeks and Zeagle regs, I would certainly have bought a set of Hog regs on the Black Friday sale. Actually, I may still if another such sale comes along.

Mike,
Your analogy as noted above is an extremely poor one. I "grew up" in a manufacturing family and am very well aware of production costs. To take an item to a machine shop in the US to have one hole drilled and tapped, would cost far more (discounting the US vs Taiwan rates) in setup time than in doing the actual machining.

You seem to have a very good reputation here on SB, so I was a bit confused by your implying that one should buy now before price goes up. Even if Chris does increase the retail price to cover the cost of this addition, I doubt that any increase based upon the cost of adding this one item would be significant.

Oh, I guess that really increases the cost.

No no do go on

I don't get what your saying...Your post implied that the cost shouldn't go up because they are just " tapping and drilling" Well, there is a new part being introduced to the reg, with more work going into it. Why wouldn't the price on the regulator go up? Its better and costs more....Right now, the manufacturer has NOT figured out his new pricing with the higher cost....He is going to have that done this weekend....meaning there will be a price increase. It may only be $5 or $10, but there will most likely be an increase. What is wrong with letting people know that the price may go up....I am trying to save them money. I really don't see where your gripe with my post is.....I never said it would be a big increase. But I would rather try to save you $5-$10 on the same item if I can....Sorry if you don't believe in that thought process. I never thought someone would get upset that I was trying to help them save money, and informing them the price is going up.....

Well, discussing the prospect of a price increase tends to add urgency to making a buying decision. In that regard, it could be viewed as 'pressure'.

I received an email from TDL with the same pricing except that their offer expires on Feb 28th. Again, urgency to make a commitment.

I have been considering the HOG setup. I don't need another regulator but I like the business model, my grandson has the Edge Epic regulator and we also have an Edge 32# wing that I am using with my double hose setup. We were also pretty happy with the Edge BC that my grandson was using before I upgraded him to a BP/W. So, I guess I'm impressed with the brand.

The thing is, I don't want to make a decision right now so I think I'll just sit back and see how this all shakes out. If the price increases very much then maybe my decision will be made for me.

The only urgency I was making it for, was to save your money. Like I said, you are looking at a $5- $10 increase.

If you are not worried about $5-$10 then don't worry...but at least for those that want to save money...I gave them the chance.

We don't make a lot of money on a $260 regulator, so to imply that I am trying to pressure you into buying it over a few dollars is just ridiculous. The reason we push it is because its a great value and a great reg FOR YOU....Don't confuse it with us making millions from it. Your best interest is our priority....not my pocket book :)
