I clicked on this thread because regs are on my shopping list, and the HOG regs are on my short list.

Mike, I can see where you are looking out for potential customers by letting them know that you have the new regs, and also that you are interested in saving them some money, so that's great.

On the other hand, I did read that first post and thing "Egad, I'm not quite ready to buy regs and yet now I'm reading that the price is going to go up if I don't buy now." It was a tiny bit stressful.

I think where any issue could have been eliminated would have been for you to say "I don't know for sure what the exact price increase will be, but I'm thinking it will be along the lines of $5 to $10" (for example).

This way, anyone who is on the verge of buying can easily save a few $ and will be grateful for the information. On the other hand, someone like me who is still in "pre-buying" mode, is free to make a measured decision, balancing the benefit of buying now vs. waiting. For me it will be much better to wait a bit and spend, say, $10 more. On the other hand if it were going to be a $50 price increase, well, that would require different calculations.

So, to make my long-winded post shorter, I think it's great that you started a thread to let people know the new regs are available, and that they might go up in price soon. However it might have been helpful if you had given the ballpark amount that you had in mind ($5 to $10), rather than leaving it open-ended.

Thanks again for keeping us informed :)

Hi Folks,

There are a couple things that relate to the price increase.

A small increase in my price for the new 5th port part versus the old part that went there, plus the cost of a thread lock type product for the new part that is oxygen compatible and not exactly cheap.
Freight has really jumped since I introduced the HOG regs
I also wasn't pricing the D1 cold correctly....

Anyway the price increase that I will email to my dealers today will not be large, the MSRP on the D1 is still $249.98 and the D1 Cold has gone to $299.98

My dealers are quite free to sell for what they want any product, I do however have a Minimum Advertised Price Policy in place, that simply means I don't want everybody finding themselves in a price war. They are already a FANTASTIC value. The new MAP prices effective 1 March for the D1 is $144.99 and the D1 Cold is $164.99. Not exactly interstellar rocket price increases.

cerich,

Thanks for all the openness related to this. That's really extraordinary.

I think Mike was assuming that readers here were following previous threads where this modification was discussed. In those threads, I think the figure of "about $10" was already mentioned, so some of us already knew what to expect.

Thanks for all the openness related to this. That's really extraordinary.

I find it easier to remember things that are true than otherwise, and say things as they are instead of how I may want them perceived. It also has the side effect of blowing the minds of many in the industry which i consider a huge upside even if it sometimes puts me at odds....:D

I understand what your saying...I don't want to get into a squabble over this either. I didn't know what the increase was at time of posting. About 24hrs later, when someone asked, I posted the info.

If you guys are concerned, instead of implying that I am being pushy....ask. A simple, "What do you think the increase will be?" would have solved it all....I am sorry if I cannot interperate how everyone will take my posts, and I cannot always think of everything. So please ask....no need for distrust or to get stressed over it

This is scuba...its FUN>..I'm a fun guy, I have a fun job, and I get to interact with FUN people...like all of you :D So please don't get stressed....

Still, 10% is not exactly insignificant (DRIS D1 Cold for comparison).

But I still like the business model and I think the regs will sell well.

How much could it possibly cost in China to drill and tap an end port?

slave labor is usually pretty cheap, but it's the installation of the traditional lead coating that runs up the tab...... (hey, just a cheap jab at the Chinese here, not HOG regs!)
