What are most of the New England divers into?........

Wrecks, photo, gathering, sightseeing........

In my younger days (in California) I was into scallop beds, abalone, sea urchins, octopus collecting and spearfishing....... am I out of touch?
Are there others divers like me in New England?.........;)

Hi,
I spent time diving in San Diego and northern California back in the 70s. You'll find a bit of everything to do around here, just substitute lobsters for abs and octos. Viz tends to be less during the warmer months and water temps vary more.
Welcome.
Jim

I too am former S. Cal transplant. Miss kelp beds, Abalone, and hunting bugs w/out claws. Here it's mostly sight seeing. Cape Ann has some sites w/ cool terrain. (e.g. Cathedral Rocks) Closest to diving off Palos Verdes as a yout in '79/80. You'll like it here. Plenty of folks to hook up with and guide you around. Several dive clubs do group dives (e.g. North Shore Frogman, New england aquarium dive club) so join up with them.

These are some shots from shore dives that I have done. Granted they are from the days with better vis, but the days with horrible vis make other dives great.

Welcome! I'm native NE. Reefseal gives you good advice. Cape Ann is a great place to dive. I've traveled there from RI just to do 1 or 2 dives and then drive back. With any kind of suitable water craft you can do some really spectacular diving! The shore dives are great too. I dive after dark for lobsters in my home state of RI. I take pics but I can't call it photography. Hard shell clams are great for chowder, clam cakes and stuffies.

Lots of divers in New England enjoy similar pursuits! :)

On many of my dives, I like to combine the typical sightseeing with shooting photos, spearing flounder, and bringing back any salvageable stuff like lost anchors, etc.

Scallop dives can be great!

Some of my dives have more than paid their own way.... :D

I thank you very much......

In April Mike D has been kind enough to offer me a refresher course at the Somerville YMCA.......

Then, I will be eager to go diving/game collecting..........

Will anyone be kind enough to "show me around"?......

Looking forward in meeting you guys.....:beerchug:

Sightseeing, collecting golf balls and being neutral.

Huh? I used to research these guys in Ca.

Those were my college days......

It all depended what the sushi bar requested to serve as their evening's freshest catch......abalone, scallops, urchins, octopus, spider crab, sheepshead, etc. etc.......
