We ventured 50 miles offshore yesterday in search of a new spot we acquired numbers for. Saw a small spot on the bottom in 155 fow and a nice fish show. We got the anchor set and dropped down through a giant school of amberjack. Followed the anchor line to the sand and I look over and see a dark area with a big Goliath swimming down. I made my way over to where I saw the grouper and see the entrance to the cave Success! I didn’t go in the cave it was silted out from the grouper but one of the other divers did about a 50’ penetration but the Goliath was holding his ground and didn’t want us in his house and viz was shot. We have a lot more research to do on this spot but it was an exciting find! I will update more once we gather more information.

At 155 ft it would have been above the water level a few thousand years ago.
Yes that what some of the scientists that my group do some work for say. They are thinking the oceans could have been up to 300' shallower than they are today. I am not sure what kind of evidence they have of that but it is pretty interesting on how many changes the world has gone through.

Was visiting my mother in law in florida a few years ago I was looking for something to read. I found an old book of Florida maps. Not sure why she had it since she was very much not scientific. Anyway it had florida maps going back tens of thousands of years. There were maps where the ocean was down several hundred ft. During a major ice age I assume. There were also maps where Florida was mostly under water and just some small islands and stuff down the middle. Depending on the climate oceans go down and up.

Interesting do you recall the name of the book I would be interested in giving it a read.

I am afraid not. It was pretty old. A yard sale acquisition I think. Unfortunately I was not there when she died and the local inlaws probably put it in a dumpster. Thats what they did with anything not of obvious value.
