Having had a valve Knob come off in my hand (at the fill station) I have been looking for a simple, compact tool to check, tighten the retainers on scuba valves.

I wasn't too impressed with what I found and pretty soon had a broad bladed, short handled screw driver mounted in a surface grinder, adding the necessary notch. Worked great, too damn much trouble, and too expensive to produce however.

This is my current solution. These "wrenchs" are water jet cut from 16 ga. (062") SS and fit the retainer nut nicely.

Let me know if you do another run. We could use a few at the shop. Specifically since I need to tear down my doubles this month.

I had a knob fall off a deco tank once during a dive.

Testing afterwards showed it is possible to open the valve using a pair of EMS shears on the stem. Of course, now I know that it will never happen again !

oops, to late for me. :(

*waits for his keeper and dring order to arrive*

Leave it to Tobin!

Having had two valve knobs fall off over the years because I hadn't checked and tightened the retainer, I looked for such a tool. I couldn't find one so I made one out of a broad screwdriver the same way Tobin did. Not an elegant solution... Tobin's looks much better!
