New diver, scared of sharks...

Speaking of shark week. There was a guy researching tiger sharks, and he could not get the tigers to get near him (even with food) while he was on scuba. He had to switch to freediving to get anywhere near them.

I'd say the only real concern (as long as you are not spearing fish/feeding sharks) would be visability. Make sure they can see you are not a surfer or a new-england skinny dipper, and you'll be fine

You did dive in the Florida springs – most of them have a resident gator. I guess you were not scarred about gators because you did not know that they are in the springs. I did hundreds of cave dives and I did see many, many gators, sometimes to close for comfort, but I was never attacked. I did also do hundreds of open water dives, many off the coast of Florida and in the Bahamas. I did see sharks, but usually out in the blue water.

I guess all people are afraid of things they don’t know. You have to learn to deal with it. Your risk of getting injured in a car accident is probably much higher as your risk of getting attacked by shark while scuba diving. Is there a small risk left? Perhaps! But you don’t stop driving a car either.

I dive Jupiter all the time. THere are MUCH better shark sightings in the winter months when the water is cooler. I love to see them in the water the graceful way they swim is amazing. THey are a pointy torpedo in the water but when they bite they look like a hollow funnel surrounded with the front being all teeth.

I have seen BG's in medical shock from K9 bites I can not imagine getting hit by a Jupiter Bullshark at 8'. I have seen them in the winter regularly at the tunnels. Also a site called Captain Kurl. The ledges.. well actually all over that area. It is actually Juno beach south of Jupiter.
