I'd say maybe 25- 30

In 30 dives you're going to spend at most $200 on renting BCD and the regs. I'm having hard time figuring out why one would want to spend 4 times as much this early. My advice: rent and spend the difference on AOW.

I think of the two packages, the second one with the TUSA / HOG combo has the edge. Ive dived the TUSA BCD and its a pretty nice intro into a back inflate system. I haven't used the HOG myself, but just yesterday was chatting with some tech / CCR mates and one of them has been diving his for over 10 years now, this is on 100m plus dives regularly, and he swears by them. A quick google search seems to show overwhelmingly positive reviews.

There are many missing fundamentals in these packages, like mask, fins, and wetsuit. You will need a computer for sure. One of the packages lists one as optional. You really need to try things on; the BCD in addition to the missing fundamentals. You might consider finding a good dive shop near you.
I own personal gear, ie. Fins, mask, booties, snorkel. I've completed my NAUI owd, I just think at $60 per dive to rent, I'd be better off starting with a decent entry level setup.

Do the packages you have selected reflect your total budget well? Also, I am of the "buy your own gear as soon as possible" school of thought. You wouldn't carry a borrowed rifle to the ramp, so why with other life support equipment?

Of course if one is on a budget and the choice is between renting and buying REALLY cheap and nasty gear, of course rental is the way to go.

Your choices seem fine to me, based on what you are planning. Of course, I could probably suggest other items to replace that might be SLIGHTLY better but for that you'll have to wait for tomorrow, its 2 am here and I'm too tired to be a proper google ninja right now

I am in no rush, thank you for the help. I think my next dive won't be till 2nd week of may. And yes, that is about my budget. I was just hoping maybe to get some reassurance that these setups would be better than diver supply's "house brand". Thanks again for the help. Maybe I'll see you in UAE soon

FYI I've dived Zeagle for the last 10 years and man i love them, they are modular so they can grow with you, they are also damn near indestructible. the Scout model is 20$ cheaper than the TUSA
Zeagle Scout BCD

I think I may have miscommunication here. By 30 dives I meant 30 dive trips, my apologies. I imagine each trip would be about 3 dives. From everywhere that I read planning future trips, it appears that gear rental is between $55-$65.

This is on clearance, Id consider this strongly:
Sea Elite TEK X Harness and Wing BCD

I have one of these and LOVE it:
Oceanic Biolite Travel BC

little more expensive but really nice for travel
They have a package with that Sea elite bcd, hog regulator with mares Octo, for $729, except no dive computer. I really want one because I think it will make my dives much more enjoyable. Do you think it would be smart to wait on the dive computer?
