New Diver Please Help With Gear Selection

Hello friends.

I am a super noob diver, what we'd call a 5 jump chump in my profession, lol. I am looking forward to learning as much as I can and diving as often as possible. I would like to purchase my own life support equipment in order to save money while diving and so that I will be able to build confidence using my own equipment. I have narrowed it down to 2 sets which I feel will both be good for me. Please advise, which would be best for me? Thank you in advance.

The standard Scuba Board answer is get a backplate and wing.

But to truly answer your question, we need to know what kind of diving you do and where. Do you plan on getting into technical diving? Or just warm water vacation dives? Do you plan on repairing your own equipment or dropping all off with your local dive shop every year?

The key is to start with the end in mind.

Well, the Tusa package comes with the hog regulator, I have read here that it is good equipment, and the BCD is back inflate, and I read that it can help with proper trim while under water. I have read good things about that Cressi R1 bcd as well. I like that I can get an entry level dive computer with both packages, and they each come with a three gage console.

There are many missing fundamentals in these packages, like mask, fins, and wetsuit. You will need a computer for sure. One of the packages lists one as optional. You really need to try things on; the BCD in addition to the missing fundamentals. You might consider finding a good dive shop near you.

Well, like I said, I am a 5 jump chump (airborne term). I plan on diving wrecks in NC, reef and wrecks in Florida central Gulf Coast, and yes, absolutely some vacation (warm weather) diving, actually Coron Philippines is looking good for September. As for now, I am and will be just a recreational diver. I have alot to learn and practice, so I surly won't be working on my own gear. I mean, it took quite some time of me driving before I began working on my own car, lol. Thanks for the help
