Hi everyone, I got Certified in Maui in April 2005, Did 10 dives in one week. Came home and was addicted. I bought all the gear on E-bay. I Went back to Maui last month, and got 2 more dives in. I took my son on an intro. He loved it. I love the warm water... Next weekend if conditions are good, a friend has asked me to go diving with him in Monterey. I have the suit for cold water but don't know how I'm going to like the cold water and the different wild life. Any advice or suggestions??? Thanks JP

Hi jannbam, and welcome to SB. Cold water diving is in my opinion not as fun as warm water diving but still fun. The thing is, its a whole lot better to do more diving than just the 1 - 2 weekends a year while on vacation. And Monterey ain't all that cold with the right gear. Have fun.

10 dives the first week is cool. I did 12 one weekend off of a Calf liveaboard once - great diving there, too. Buying your gear off of E-Bay concerns me, tho. At least have the Reg and BC serviced by a local dive shop, regardless of cost. :dollar:

And don't be shy about posting. Click Forums above, tour the long list of choices, and jump in anywhere you're qualified. PM me with any questions, and I'll try to find a pretty good answer.

Likewise welcome. Enjoy the board and its members.

Cold water (kelp forest) and tropical (coral reef) diving both have their appeal. Most of my diving is done in kelp (since I'm a kelp forest ecologist), but the tropics are very appealing in late winter!!!
