Hello all. I've been bitten by the diving bug, I think. The wife and I went on a cruise to the Bahamas a month ago, and we did a snorkeling excursion and I'm hooked. I had an absolutely fantastic time and I'm ready to take the deeper plunge, both figuratively and literally.

We live in the Fort Worth, TX and I was amazed to find 3 dive shops within a 2 mile or so radius from each other. These are about 15 minutes from the house for me so this is pretty much perfect. I have my eye on the PADI Open Water certification course offered thru one of these shops. I'm planning on signing up this week for a course beginning on Aug 5th. I'm really excited, and can't wait to get started.

I'm sure over the coming months I'm going to have tons of questions for this esteemed group. Right now I'm planning on this first course and looking to keep taking courses and getting in dives locally as much as possible. We have made reservations at a resort in the Dominican Republic for next June, and we are eyeing Belize for the following year. I want to be as proficient as possible for next year so I can get maximum enjoyment.

Anyway, just wanted to say hey to everyone.

Welcome, svnipp!

I'm sorry to hear about your bite! :shocked2:

You'll be pleased to hear it is treatable even though incurable. You need to plan on 1 or more immersions under water for periods of 30 minutes or more . . . the more often, the more tolerable is the affects of the bite.

Between immersions, consider applications of scuba toys (gear) as necessary to keep the 'pain' at bay. When it gets really bad, log on here and live vicariously through others' dives!

Lastly, I believe there is a support group for people like you -- please check out Texas Swamp Divers - ScubaBoard

Oh, and don't forget to update your profile so we'll know who we are talking to. ;)
