I think renting first is a great idea. In time you will know what you want. Another option is to buy second hand you can get some perfect regs second hand from people that tried the sport and lost interest after a few dives. Just make sure if you do you get them serviced by a good reliable tech before you use them. Another reason to rent for a while is that once you start buying regs you won't stop, it's an addiction before you know it you will have 5 sets!
