I'm gettin ready to buy an Atomic B2 or ST1 regulator and didnt want to get one and then next month the next generation come out. Does anybody know when Atomic Aquatics will updates their lineup ? ( not saying anything is wrong with them now)

I just picked-up a shiny new Atomic ST1 today which is a beautifully machined piece of equipment approaching modern art status. The model is relatively new so it has all the bells and whistles. I have owned Scubapro regs for years. This blows it away...

The shop I teach at sells a lot of Atomic Aquatics stuff - because of this they are one of the ones first in line to get the new Cobalt computers.

Haven't heard a peep about anything new. Not even a hint. (Doesn't mean anything. I mean, why would they tell a retailer if they were trying to keep something under wraps until DEMA? Although they were telling us about the computer about a year ago.)

Given that, I've been impressed at how the parts stream, even for first generation regs, has been robust, and even included updates to improve older regs.

So, I guess I'm say'in that you can't go wrong to buy now.

All the best, James

Something nice about Atomic regs is that they are all essentially the same... they are the same design, so they all breathe the same - the only differences are the material they are made of, and certain options like swivels on the second stage and turrets on the first stage...

I work for an Atomic dealer and even dove the Cobalt dive computer over a month ago when their rep was down here for a week, there isn't anything new reg wise on the horizon for them for a while I don't believe...

I dive the Atomic M1's they are a great reg. I also own MK17/G250V and there is not much difference between them at all. I like the M1's over the other Atomics because they come sealed as diving in cold waters you need that. But I do believe you can get any of the models sealed.

Atomic only fairly recently introduced the ST1, and now they have pretty much the entire price spectrum covered with product (Z2, B2, M1, T2) so I really can't see Atomic introducing any 'new' regs for the forseeable future, especially given the economic stress the entire scuba industry is under. Looks like their current new product priority is their new range of computers.

There's the new T2X and Z2X that just came out last year.

The ST1 comes with a sealed 1st stage just like the M1, except that the M1 has the heat exchanger in the 2nd stage to keep the 2nd stage from freezing in cold/ice water.

If you're not doing any exotic technical diving, then any of the model will do. The M1 was meant for technical diving and that's why it has the sealed 1st stage, the heat exchanger in the 2nd stage AND the 2nd stage/octo can be retrofitted with cave rings so that you can disassemble them quickly for cleaning while underwater.

I understand why you're asking. I bought my T2 a couple of years ago, and less than a year later Atomic upgraded it to the T2x. Not a big deal but still a little annoying. Kind of like buying a Mac laptop only to have Apple upgrade it a few months later with a bigger hard drive, faster processor, etc for the same amount of money. Obviously, the original purchase is still one fine product but when you're plunking down this kind of money it's nice to get the latest and greatest.

Then about a year ago I read on this board that Atomic has "upgrade" kits--not mentioned anywhere on their website--and I was able to convert my T2 into a T2x for $75.

As scubafanatic said, the ST1 is a fairly new model so I doubt it will be updated any time soon. The B2, on the other hand, has been around for a while and, I'm guessing here, will probably be the next model to be upraded but that doesn't mean it will be any time soon.

Btw, I plunked down a deposit for the Cobalt last weekend at my LDS. I was told they'll be shipping by the end of the month. Woo hoo!
