I am always skeptical and disappointed when a "member's" first post is an inflammatory charge against (insert anything or anybody here), which may or may not be legitimate.
5 days with no further comment. I say let sleeping dogs lie (under the bridge).

I was concerned about what happened to the OP ... being charged for battery replacement in a computer that has free battery replacement for life.

My battery was replaced for free as I was told would happen when I purchased it in 2003, so I do not understand why the OP's battery was not replaced.

Hey, Mikedig30, I feel for you -- wanta sell it if it is an Aladin Pro Ultra Nitrox?

I got into Aladin Pro Ultra knowing this . . . Now my hubby and I want a spare computer. (mine "err"d on my FIRST dive in Cozumel!!). contact UsryTregre@yahoo.com. The used ones are going for $150, but since you have a new batt, I'll go $165. . . Nice down payment on a new one!

PS - if Air only, we're not interested. Good luck with it!

Bump! Mikedig, R U there?

"Crickets Chirping" Thanks for the chuckle! I'm finding that everyone that has an Aladin Pro Ultra wants to keep it, darn 'em.

I have always had good luck with both Aladin and now Uwatec computers. The algorythm is great, it's very user friendly and operation is a snap. If you can operate one Uwatec, you can pretty much operate 'em all. I got into a position where I had to give up my Uwatec to use a Suunto because the dive shop sold Suunto and it was the most miserable 3 years I ever had. Suunto has a horrible, very conservative Algorythm and is anything but user-friendly. In short, I would NEVER again buy another Suunto under any circumstances. Very jumbled screen and the deep stop function is a joke. Who cares if you can change the battery yourself if the computer bites?

Well, ScubaPro assured me that they never do "just a battery change". They do a full check and put the thing through full pressure testing. "I" had about seven new dives to show it. The only complaint I've heard consistantly is they go from battery = 5~% (fifty-something %) to zero or "Err" in a split second. I can personally vouch for it, @^$%^#. That's why I want another - to use as a backup. I love my Aladin Pro Ultras. (Mine & hubby's)

Scratch this offer. I've decided that all of us that own Aladin Pro Ultras just do not want to give them up! They are SO worth every penny! I'm buying an Aladin Smart Tec and letting my Pro Ultra be my backup.

Stay away from Uwatec, no more service and they rip you off if you need a battery change. I now recommend Suunto.

I have heard, albeit second-hand, that Suunto will not honour its warranty if you are an instructor... Apparently, the argument goes, that instructors use their computers beyond their intended use of basic recreational diving.

Okay, if that's how they want to set their warranty, that's up to them. However, if/when I am an instructor, I would certainly not recommend Suunto when that inevitable question from my student comes: What kind of computer should I buy?

As mentioned, I have only heard this second-hand... Please let me know if this is inaccurate.
