Sorry about the confusion I'm too used to calling it that, I believe it's called stem extension or something I can not remember. Attached is a picture of the circled area I am talking about. View attachment 643743

Honestly, I could not say I always ask for the full manifold stem tanks when I dive side-mount or purchase my own tanks. All my tanks are setup with pairs of each other.

Those are known as "modular valves."
 
In the caribbean we just use the stem on the left side and the valve on the right side and it's just no big deal. At home I use left and right valves but it doesn't really matter. Regulators face my body just as they should.
