Devilfish--First off let me welcome you to the boards. Glad you found us.

Secondly I'll say thanks for the info. I will certainly try your recommendation.

NetDoc & Ber rabbit I hope this is of some help to you also.

I have been practicing the "yen" of doff and don. Mental prep, low volume mask, and LOOSE finstraps -no booties- are the ticket for me.

Toe Avoidance" system for tanks????

Toe Avoidance" system for tanks????

Yeah, and I wish he'd hurry up and finnish that project... I still have a black mark in my right foot's big toe nail from a tank last Sept. that didn't have this "system" installed...

I was curious what this "system" is. Please explain.

the first thing you need to establish is "need". In this case I dropped my PST hp steel 120 tank on my right pinky toe a month or two ago. IF... (and that's a big -IF-) I had finished the Toe Avoidance System (TAS), I would probably be a NAUI instructor by now. As yet the pentagon has outright refused to give me any of their "smart bomb" technology for incorporation into SCUBA tanks. A "Smart Tank" equipped with my soon to be patented "TAS" would have NEVER hit my toe... it would have probably sought out Osama's toe instead. This would of course resulted in his toe-tal anihilation. Heck, I'm sure anyone would foot the bill for that one. Yes, yes, he would be toe-st! That is one toe even -I- would love to jump up and down on a few times.

I'm trying to understand how the tank hit your toe. Did it slip out of the bc while you were shacking to see if it is loose. Just trying to see the picture.

Nothing that advanced... I was loading them up into the back of my pickup and I missed... See how smart tank technology is needed in today's toe-critical world?

Hey NetDoc--heres a simple relatively low cost personal toe avoidance system. Tip the guy at the shop to load the tanks while you watch/supervise from a safe distance.

BTW thanks for the Zen of doff & don.

Maybe you could use one of the range finders that golfers use. I'm not sure exactly how they work, I just know my dad has one.

Now I REALLY appreciate having the YMCA so close to the house! ;)

My main problem with the skin ditch and recovery is overcoming my fear of being in deep water without air. The university pool is 14 feet deep, the one at the YMCA is only 9 feet deep and there is a HUGE difference in my comfort level on the bottom of each of them.

Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress!
