Second dive at Neptune's Cove and oh boy was it great! This time I believe we reached some of the pinnacles because there was some massive reef structure we came to which started in about 45-50ft and rose up to about 25-30ft. We made a long surface swim far out to the left side off the cove and then out towards the point. We took a 220 heading "directly off the right side of the point" and descended. Visibility was poor at our entrance, but the left side of the cove opened up nicely to about 20-25ft. A series of mini walls and small reefs were in the shallows, with lots of life abound. We even spotted a shovel nose guitar fish which swam right over top of me and then was spooked by my flash. We headed deeper out along a mellow slope until we came to a large sand barren. Though the 220 heading was directly out from the sand, we decided to hug the edge of the kelp bed and hope we came to the pinnacles. Charlie spotted a huge Giant Black Sea Bass out in the open blue, which of course I missed But the biggest treat laid ahead of us at the edge of the kelp bed. We kicked for about five minutes on the edge of the kelp bed until a large dark structure laid ahead of us. As we drew closer we noticed it was a massive reef system. Though it not laid in the 60ft of water, that I was told the main pinnacle is in "we were at 45-50ft", this reef was huge. Life was everywhere, tons of gobi's, tree fish, huge variety of anemone, sheephead, calico and barred bass, Spanish Shawl, Yellow Dorids, numerous nudi eggs, and so so so much more. Lots of mini holes and overhangs made good photo ops. This is what Palos Verdes diving is all about. Yesterday I had a great dive at Long Point with the Sunday crew and today another awesome dive at Neptune's. I wish time could stand still and I could relieve these past two days for eternity.
