Hi everyone, I have been diving a full face mask for awhile now, OceanReef Neptune II. I really enjoy diving with it. Especially in a cold quarry with a drysuit. I have been running with my FFM an octo. I also have a spare mask in my BC. So if something would happen I can dump the FFM and put in a regulator and mask. This is where I would like your opinion. I have added a 13 cft bailout bottle. On my FFM I have added a second regulator. It is hooked into the bailout bottle. So if something happens to the FFM reg I dont have to dump the mask. I can just go to the bailout bottle and get to the surface. I still have an octo in case of a buddy breathing situation. I guess the question is what do you think about the second reg. I have attached pics so you can see what I am talking about.

Thanks for the Discussion,
Jim

Where is the bailout mounted?

the bailout is mounted on the right side. Upright just like the main tank. I can actually reach round behind me and easily turn the bailout on. The two quick disconnects come across my right shoulder and plug into the regs. They are color coded to make sure the right hose goes to the right reg. The extra hose and reg doesnt imped with the movement of my head. Actually dont realize its there. The good thing I see isif the main reg goes I dont have to ditch the mask. Just turn on the bailout bottle.

I don't have quite the engineering and mechanical mind that some of the members of SB have and there are quite a few of them. It seems as if the system will work ok, but for some reason the words "failure point" come to mind although I can't quite get a grip as to why. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it looks a bit "busy." Sometimes things built and/or added for safety purposes in fact contribute to lack of such. It simply seems that there is too much stuff in this set up. I know I am playing devil's advocate here. I am one who is simply of the less is better mind set. You, no doubt, take what you need for safety but you also don't overdo it. I think on paper it looks like a good set up but question whether it is something that is really "needed." Can you do without it and still be safe.

Hopefully some of the more mechanical and engineering minded members will give you some feedback. I actually don't know why none of them have chimed in on your question already. You definitely have good creativity as well as a good mechanical and engineering mind yourself it seems....and I give you credit for your ingenuity....

I believe the FFM accessory you seek is a gas block. It's essentially a valve/switch that allows flow from one of two different gas sources. I believe Oxycheq sells them.
