Will do. Thanks everyone for the input. I'm thinking a 32oz wide mouth Nalgene and a ziplock bag will do the trick.
 
(1) You will want to compress the bag and fill the bottle with water before you descend, otherwise it will (a) be 2 pounds buoyant and hard to manage, and (b) hard to unscrew the cap because of the pressure differential. If there is a gasket you can remove, it will self-fill and solve both problems.
(2) You have already said you want to clip it off to you so you don't drop it; good idea. Most of the real Nalgene bottles (not rip-offs) have pretty good links to hold the cap to the bottle; a little quick-link to this and a decent snap-bolt should do the trick. Clipboard01.jpg
