I kept my cable for internet access @$100/month. Ditched cable TV a while ago and go with YouTube. Haven't used a landline for phone in 10 years.

Actually, I did. When I say old TV I mean old TV. Nowhere to plug in a Roku or firestick. Had to have a cable box.Jim, you NEVER needed cable for Netflix. Just an Internet connection and a cheapo box like Roku or Amazon Fire. Your smart TV supplanted that.

I had a 32 inch tube TV that I paid 250 bucks for at Walmart. It would not die. I couldn't justify spending money I didn't need to. It still actually works just fine. It's sitting in the bedroom. I hate to throw it away and no one will even take it for free!Sheesh Jim. Do you still have 8 track in your car?

Yep, have Prime, Firestick and Nextflix...other than that PBS and local channels would be nice. Antenna due here tomorrow and I will try that out Asap. If it works, I'll be calling Verizon come Monday to cnx!Shudder. Hi def is amazing, no matter *what* you're watching. Test patterns are amazing in HD!
Technically, you could have simply used this: https://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Converter-Modulator-Old-Transmitter/dp/B07W58PNPP/
Not that I would recommend that: getting an HDTV is worth the cost of upgrading -- plus dropping cable means that the money you save would pay for the television *very* quickly: a 40" Roku Smart TV is only $219 *delivered*! https://www.amazon.com/TCL-40S325-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B07GB61TQR/
Back to the OP: I add my recommendation to OTA TV for local channels (you live in NYC: you have channels *galore*), plus whatever streaming services make sense for you. For me, it's Prime (if my links didn't make it clear, Amazon Prime is the *best*), Netflix and Hulu -- though if Hulu doesn't quit screwing around with taking away things I want, I'm dropping it. (Actually, I'm sure it's things like Discovery+ that is taking away things from Hulu... )
Unfortunately, I think we're *leaving* the golden age of streaming. $8/month for all the TV and movies you wanted was *incredible* -- too incredible to last. Now, if you want to get enough streaming services to watch what you'd get from a typical "basic cable" package, you will pay what you used to pay for that basic cable package -- and in my opinion, that is *no* accident.
