Yes the 3 R's that rakkis sugested is a great course to take to get comfortable with beach entrys & it is totally taught with no scuba gear just mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit & some weights.

Wow, just saw that you're from Newhall. I went to Hart High, Valencia is my home town. My mom still lives in Valencia :)
I prefer the coastal weather though (I live in Orange County) ;)

Your mom is welcome to join us at our next dive club meeting to meet some local divers. It's the Santa Clarita Dive Club we meet the 2nd Wed. of every month at Maria's Deli on Lyons ave & Walnut.
I like the costal weather also except when the sun doesn't come out.

Regarding the 3 Rs, it is wonderful. Not only will you learn how to do entries, you will learn how to assess dive sites. E.g. you will learn how to assess what the size and direction of the swell is likely to be and to determine which sites will be most protected. I must confess that I learned more about site assessment in the last 3 sessions of the 3 Rs than I have in all my prior diving. If you guys attend, hunt me down ... mine will be the van with the big dive flag.

So when are you planning on taking mom out? I'm due for another day of diving with my son at the Dive Park.
