My husband and I have enough miles to go diving somewhere in the Caribbean/Central America on USAir. This will be our 4th dive drip (we've been to Little Cayman, GT and Coz) and we're interested in something with a bit more topside activity than the islands we've already visited (e.g. hiking, restaurants). Any suggestions? Advise as to dive ops and resorts also appreciated. Although we don't necessarily need a 5 star hotel, something really nice would be good -- since we don't have to spend money on plane fare, we have some extra money for the resort! Also, if you could tell me what the diving is like on the island, that would be helpful (we've only got about 40 dives each). Thanks!

Quiet a lot of top side stuff shop till you drop, casino etc
OR Costa Rica.

Did Aruba, two years ago on USAir. 5 hours from Charlotte non-stop. All-Inclusive at the Allegro Resort. Wasn't dive certified so didn't get to dive, but a lot of top-side stuff. Wonderful trip, great country..(I went in May, after the winter crowds and spring break groups, etc...hotel not at capacity, so no lines for food, pool was empty, beach not crowded...excellent. 24hr breeze keeps it mild (80s) and dry. would go back in a heartbeat, plan to again real soon in the future. It's P.R. this year for me though. Just my 1 cents.

One idea would be Dominica for great hiking...but resorts close to diving are more basic...not luxury.

Other possibilites -- St. Lucia (very lush island), or St. Vincent (we are going there in December -- lots of good hiking and beautiful scnenery, including a 4,000 ft. volcano)...but getting quick/easy flights can be tough (especially St. Vincent).

Turks & Caicos is an option. Three hours out of Charlotte. World class diving. Fantastic restaurants. No hiking though.

My husband and I have tried Grand Cayman and loved it, but not much topside. The Bahamas were fun and had more topside with the Casinos. The only island I didn't like was St. Martin -- but that could have been because we had a really bad experience with our hotel. Cozumel was fun, the diving was great and lots to do, especially if you go to the ruins on the mainland. We are going to Aruba for the first time in about two weeks. I'll let you know how it was when when we get back.
