Hi,
I own a seiko M726 marineMaster dive watch but I think it is only good for back up...anyway I would like to purchase a new dive computer watch.

I saw the suunto D9 but it is very expensive and has IMO too much ''stuff'' on it.

What I would like is a dive computer watch that is built like a ''tank'' and has the basic needs like depth, dive tables, surface interval time, max depth and bottom time for subsequent dives.

Does Suunto make a not so expensive dive computer watch?

Thanks!
Alex

I think the Mosquito is less expensive. I just got one of these but have yet to dive with it. The Stinger is more or less the same computer in a stainless steel case and is also significantly less than the D9. From what I understand, Suuntos are some of the more conservative computers.

Not sure what range "too expensive" is for you, but I have a Dive Rite Nitek Plus which is just a little larger than a typical sports watch (about the same size as a men's G-shock - a little larger than a Timex Ironman). It works fine as a watch and is a very nice dive computer - it will even do two gases. They retail for $495, but if you shop carefully you can do a little better on the price. One trade off in using a watch sized computer is that the display is smaller - I use mine as a back up to a Tusa IQ700 and while I have no problem reading the screen, I loaned it to a buddy who had problems seeing it.

Dive Rite Nitek Duo. Nice solid computer. Does all you need, AIR, NITROX, GAUGE and it is a nice size and it sell for 449 CDN not sure what it sell for in AMN.

I got my boyfriend a Stinger for his birthday, and he dove with it for the first time last week in Cozumel. He thought it was more conservative than other computers he's used, but was very happy with it. I got him the titanium, which increased the price by quite a bit over the stainless. I did a lot of research as to which watch/computer to buy, including visiting a forum on this site, and the consensus was that the Stinger was the way to go.

Forgive the obvious and probably stupid question, but all these computer dive watches that you are discussing, are they all wireless with transmitters? And if so, do the transmitters come with these units for the prices that you're quoteing? Just curious, eventually I will need a second dive computer and I want it to be wrist mounted and wireless. The D9 is very nice but, for that price it can look nice sitting right there in the box. Any help?

Might want to take a look at Oceanic Atom. They come in with and without the transimtter (at least that's the case in the my market). I do not intend to use a wireless feature so didn't get the transimitter in the first place. The transmitter will cost me an additional USD 250 if I later decided to get one.

Enjoyed my Atom alot.

ciao,

After you evaluate the price, whether or not you can use the buttons underwater (some wrist mounts have buttons too small), whether or not you can actually READ the LCD, I think you will find the ATMOS II to be a very good choice. You can also purchase the data cable at the same time and save money on that (ScubaToys offers the data cable for a mere $50 if you buy the computer from them).

You did not say if you needed the computer to work as an SPG. If you dive with a seperate SPG, you can't go wrong with the above. Unless of course you plan on diving mixed gas in the future (this computer WILL do NITROX)....... then you will want to step up to a computer in the $600-$1000 range.

Oh..... also you can remove the band and install small surgical tubing under the band pins and go techie look. AND you can change the battery yourself (very nice feature).
