Actually, I believe they do have a apnea mode now. If you take a look at the software section of their site, the Sol has a firmware update to enable an upgraded apnea mode. It looks like the Luna shipped with the update.

josh

I was unable to find that information regarding the Sol's apnea integration.

If you are talking about a guage mode that locks out the computer after switching for 24 or 48 hours. That is NOT what I am looking for.

I am looking for Full Apnea Integration. Where the computer will keep track of microbubble during both freedive and scuba.

If you got the url. please link me.

I tried to post the link but don't have enough posts yet. The description of the Apnea abilities are under Uwatec - software and at the bottom of that page is a link to the 1.5 upgrade.

I don't know if it locks out from SCUBA or not. I would send them an email and get your questions answered.

thanks. found it.

Galileo 1.5 firmware - SCUBAPRO-UWATEC

If this is true "apnea integration" - I am game for a sol.

Hi,
It appears that the Apnea PDF manual is too big to attach, but I found it on the Internet so you should also be able to track it down with some Google searches.
In short, it doesn't track your nitrogen loading, but it does log the dive, track time intervals and ascent rate, increase the depth sampling rate and resolution, plus give you various alarm settings. With the Sol or upgraded Luna, it also tracks heart rate.

according to the description on scubapro's website. it does "DO" what I want - apnea integration.

in comfirming it with scubapro prior to acutal purchase: either: (1) the tech at 800-GO-SCUBA (uwatec tech support) was a dork and does not have a clue as to what he is talking about or (2) the "apnea mode" is simply a "guage mode" with a new fancy term.

it is so sad when the guy the put in tech support does not have a clue. the blind leading the blind.

If there is any galileo sol/luna owner with the 1.5 firmware that do practice both scuba and freedive. Can you see if the computer will keep track of microbubbles "during" freedive (apnea) and scuba and viceversa?

Uwatec's tech support is truly useless in my experience.

I have a Sol but unfortunately I cannot answer your question as I do not free dive. Diving without an air source? Man, that's bananas! :)

I guess I wasn't clear enough...
I have a Luna with the Apnea update installed.
In Apnea mode, it does the things I listed, but it does not track your nitrogen loading (or microbubbles). The features it provides you for apnea diving are useful, but it doesn't totally integrate the two different types of diving as if they were one type.

If you want to scuba dive after a series of apnea dives, then you must use your brain to determine how safe you are :). The only comment the manual has on such mixed diving is this: "A dive computer doesn’t track tissue nitrogen build up in Apnea mode, therefore Scuba diving after Apnea dives is recommended only after sufficient surface time." Clear enough? I do both types of diving but not back-to-back, and usually not within the same 24-hour period as scuba dives.

I didn't save the links to the web site where I found the PDF, but I think it was on a French Uwatec site. If I could find it, you should be able to do so with a little creative googling, then you can see for yourself (with screen shots) the features it does and does not provide.

looks like the tech was on the right track. he just did not want to admit - it is just another new fancy term for lucrative marketing.

thanks for the clarification jh_MacLeod

as for safe mixing of freedive and scuba. I am with you. best use your head.

BTW - how long does the galileo lock you out after being at depth in apnea (gauge) mode? perhaps 48 hours like all other uwatecs?
