I have only stayed at COCO View but I will say that the diving down around the West End is good!

I was really suprised considering it's a more populated area.

which ones are you looking at?

Here's what Travelocity has:

Las Rocas Resort and Dive Center
Palmetto Bay Planation Resort
Roatan's Dive & Yacht Club
Mayan Princess Beach Resort
Henry Morgan Resort All-Inclusive
Paradise Beach Club

An odd collection, but then again, that's Travelocity.

Hotels?....In Roatan?...... (loud laughing noises) Now that I have gotten that over with..., Roatan Man is close as can be. As far as I know there are no "hotels" on the island to date, Utila and Guanaja the same. Resorts are the name of the game down there. You might find a place to stay, like Sea Grapes, but no hotels as we know them up here in the U.S. Also a few codos for rent.

Well, staying in San Pedro Sula and diving on Roatan might not be the most convenient way to go, considering you'd have plane rides in either direction.

You have a couple of main choices; you can either go with one of the resorts like cocoview, fantasy island, anthony's key, etc, or you can rent a cabin/room/condo in the west end or west bay areas and dive with one of the dive ops located there. Here's a good website to get you started: Dive Bay Islands

Allen, none of those are on Roatan! So definetly not convenient...
Fiollow Mattboys advice. And do some searches in this forum. You'll find all you need to know to plan a great stay on Roatan.

Thanks for all the help.

It looks like it is a complex trip.

Seems most airlines don't fly to Roatan every day either. I got the list of hotels from Travelocity when they worked up a trip for air and hotels to Roatan.

Will study it up more.

The easy way to get there from the U.S. is usually the nonstop from Houston on Continental. Saturdays and Sundays only. There are flights from Miami, but I've heard lots of horror stories about the connections. TACA from Houston is okay too, but if you're connecting to Houston it's usually cheaper to buy the Continental ticket. You can also do an "open jaw" to San Pedro Sula on Continental on Thursdays I think, meaning you could fly to SPS on a Thursday, take the puddle jumpers to Roatan, fly back direct from Roatan on a Sat or Sun.

The Bay Islands Diver site I linked earlier has some good travel info. There's also a regular on this forum from Houston (I forget his user name) who travels alot to Roatan and knows alot about the flights.
