Scubaboard is great for killing time, when you are waiting for something else to happen, and you cant start something new.
Scubaboard is also great for finding out about new dive areas, for dive travel. For example, the Florida Keys. Everyone knows that the Keys are probably the best overall value for great warm water scuba in the USA. And the divers on Scubaboard from the Keys are very gracious about sharing info about scuba in their waters. That way you can put together a do-it-yourself dive trip to the Keys on your own.
I have found the North Carolina and the Michigan divers equally gracious about the shipwreck diving in their waters as well.
Scubaboard is great for jumping into the middle of a technical conversation about nontechnical scuba. That way you can find out very quickly what all the major agencies are teaching in terms of theory and doctrine. It does require weeding though a fair amount of extraneous info as well, such as the ubiquitous backplate and wing response to almost any question: Q: I need a new car to haul my scuba gear around/ A: have you considered a backplate and wing??
And Scubaboard is fun. No wonder it is addicting!
