I got certified by PADI last year and havent gone diving since...i just picked up spearfishing and decided that I want to start diving again. I am looking for someone to go diving with me in shallower waters along our coast (Corona Del Mar to Laguna Beach) since I dont have much experience. I can do pretty much any day during the week and mornings on weekends. I know there are local dive clubs but at my experience level, joining one and showing up seems a bit intimidating. anyone out there that would like to go with me?

I'll dive with you, but I live up in Culver City, so I tend to dive more about Malibu/Palos Verdes. If you don't mind meeting up in the middle (Pt. Fermin, perhaps?), I'm up for it.

hey Shoupart. thanks for the reply. I go to school up in malibu but i graduate next week...had i gotten into this sooner, i would have gone with you, sucks. I would really like to be familiarized with my local waters (laguna, cdm, newport) so maybe after i get a few dives under my belt and become more comfortable, i will definately take you up on your offer. any south orange county divers out there?

btw, if my friend freedives...you think it would be safe for me to scuba dive off the shore at max depth of 35 feet while my friend is freediving? or do you recommend my dive buddy be a scuba diver as well?

Hey!

I'll go with you! I don't know when I'm going to hit the water yet; nothing planned currently. I dove last weekend and while conditions weren't great, it beat not going.

Also, the South Orange County Dive Club doesn't mind if you are new. We were all there once. ;)

Ann Marie...sounds Great! I am waiting for my BC and regulator to come back from inspection...should get it tomorrow. I finish school this week so I can go whenever! I looked into south orange county dive club but im kind of intimidated to just show up and try following along. It would be really awesome if you let me know if you plan on going soon so I can tag along. btw, how much is south orange county dive club membership fee? Maybe i'll join once i get a few dives in...I'm really excited for this summer and i plan on diving lots! let me know.

Also, look for the monthly Wrinkles dives here on SB. They are a good way to meet other SoCal divers and find a buddy.

As new as you are you shouldn't solo dive & that's basically what you would be doing diving with a freediver.

Gesekee19 I was in the same spot you are last Fall. My son discovered girls and I lost my dive buddy. I live in HB and found South Coast Divers:

South Coast Divers Home Page

No fees, no meetings, new divers VERY welcome and encouraged. We dive every Saturday morning at Laguna Beach shores and every other month, we dive Casino Point. PM me or register on the website for the emails from Rich - our infamous founder and dive coordinator.

We have brand newbies to DMs, instructors and everybody in between. You'll hook up with a diver and get to know a great bunch of people that will dive with you anytime.

If it wasn't for SCD, I'd have 15 dives in the last year. I now have 52 and I'm completing my AOW and really enjoying this group. Hope to see you Saturday morning!
