Is the NEADC a good dive club to belong to?
Where and how often do they meet?
Do they do alot of diving?

Thanks,
Russ

I was a member for a few years. I think the NEADC is a great club. Their association with the NE Aquarium makes them the most prestigious in my opinion. They give away a dive in the G.O.T. at each meeting. They attract famous speakers and marine experts from all over. The membership also allows you to save a lot for parking especially if you frequent the Fanuil Hall area.

I stopped attending because the drive home for me (living west of 495) was too much. I met some great people/divers from the club. I still dive with members from that club.

Here's a link to the New England Aquarium dive club. There's a tab on top to navigate to the newsletters. You can check them out to see what activites are going on, as well as how some of the past club activities turned out. Since the season is somewhat winding down, the amount of dives is reduced. Check July or August for a more accurate representation of local diving.

As you will see, the meetings are the third Wednesday of every month, and the meeting is held in the Immersion Theater, which is next to the parking area. There's a meeting next week. Here are the details:

October General Meeting:

Wednesday, October 20, 2004, 6:30 p.m.
At the Immersion Theater
Guest Speaker: BOB MICHELSON
NORTHEAST INVERTEBRATE ID PREVIEW

An introduction to the program at the general meeting and discuss "Invertebrates of The Gulf of Maine". Bob will show several examples of each type of critter during this program and talk about what divers can do to help monitor invasive invertebrates in our region. This will be a photo-based presentation using 35mm color slides.

Pre-meeting social: Join Trish and some of the other officers at Jose Mcyntire's at 5:30. It's a great way to introduce yourself, and meet some of the NEADC officers in a smaller setting.

I think the bottom line is that you will get out of the club exactly what you put into it.

Trish, the woman mentioned above, is fairly active here, so maybe she'll add her own two cents.

I just joined and have inquired a couple times to their shore dive coordinator to no avail. They have a pool dive on Mondays at a YMCA and I was really hoping ot go test out some gear but never receive replys. Maybe your luck will be better in getting in touch with folks. Maybe its jsut that it is pretty much end of season...I dunno really.

Rob -- to participate in dives, you need to contact the individual leading the dive. Some will take some time to respond, but normally I've had good luck.

Regarding the pool diving. Call Genevieve Stewart at PG Dive in Newton. She is co-owner of the shop with her husband -- they are the shop that has the pool time every Monday night...as shore dive coordinator for the club, she offers this pool time to club members as well.

hours and phone are on their web site.

You can join even if you're not a diver.

If you have the time, you could always go to a meeting, check it out, meet and chat with some folks. Get a feel for what it's like before committing.

Hi,

You can check out the stuff the New England Aquarium Dive Club is doing by looking at our website www.neadc.org

I check our main phone number for messages about once a week. If you are interested in joining a dive then please contact the dive leader posted for each dive.

Robrob, I'm sorry if you are having trouble getting in touch with people. You can contact Genevieve, our shore dive coordinator, if you are interested in participating in the bleach dives. Just call her at (617)969-DIVE between 11am-7pm M-F or 9am-6pm on weekends.

Our next shore dive is tomorrow, Sat 10/16. The leader is Jenny Wu and she's meeting everyone at 7:30am in Beverly Burgerking on Rt. 128. Check out our website for details and ways to contact Jenny.

The season will start to get a bit cold for most of us soon but some diehard divers in the club will still be diving throughout the winter. Come to our meetings and meet potential dive buddies. You can also post on our forum section off the neadc.org website if you are interested in finding dive buddies.

If any of you have questions, it's pretty easy to contact me at membership@neadc.org. I always like talking about diving so I hope to hear from some of you.

Regards,
Trish Katzman, Membership Director
