It sounds like it is extremely difficult to plan dive trips during the colder months. Are trips blown out more often than not during the winter and early spring?
 
Not really, when the wind blows, it blows.
Finding the # of divers to make the commitment to get a trip to go during the colder months is the biggest problem.
Last year we dove with Tortuga tortuga dive charters in the 1st part of April & had 2 glorious days of diving.
We used to have a trip the 1st week of January down in Wilmington, but didn't make it down this year. But it was always fun, if diving dry, the water was mid to upper 60s. But the SI air temp being in the low 40s made the wet group mumble.
