Thanks for all the great input. I had appointment (my friend was going for immoral support) to get my navel pierced. But I'm a "WWW" (warm water wuss)... so with this thread, I have decided to navel pierce late Fall this year. With going to the tribalectic website... it seems like the best material to pierce with is titanium and not a blend of metals. Guess 14k gold might work?! ... but even that is a mixture of metals, right?

Oh... probably no one will ever see my navel pierced but me. Though if I was in my 20's... I'd look HOT! :gr1:

I haven't had a navel piercing... everyone had one when I was in school... mostly done with safety pins (ewww) so it was never a very appealing piercing. Besides that it does take longer than any other piercing to heal.

Salt water is good for healing piercings, but AVOID fresh water & pools. MMM... infections.

As for catching, well, like I said I haven't had the navel done, but catching a piercing even after it has healed is excruciating, so just have her be careful.

I've been dying for a new piercing since I had to get rid of my labret due to gum recession well over a year ago. I really want a vertical labret or a regular lip ring but figure that if my reg were to snag on one........ it might hurt just a tad..... *passes out at the very thought*

Refer her to www.tribalectic.com for further piercing questions. And make certain to find a reputable piercer.

Well, I hope your piercing goes well when it does happen!
I wouldn't say you have to go with titanium, surgical stainless steel seems to be the most common starter jewellry for most piercings locally... after it's healed some people can wear pretty much anything. I find that I can't really wear any sort of blend in my ears so I would imagine if/when I get anything else done it will be the same situation, then again, my ears aren't very accustomed to having jewellry of any kind in them for very long.

After my DM course I just may be rewarding myself with a piercing that won't snag on any of my current gear ;) we'll see... as it is I couldn't stay out of the pool for 2 months.

Just make sure you take care of it & find a reputable shop! Good luck when the time comes.

Hi All,
Tanks for all the tips.
I've been toying with the idea of a belly piercing for several years now. I finally bought a surgical steel "BananaBell" to pierce with. It's really cute with clear crystals on both ends.
Who will hold my hand this Fall when the time comes for the needle and the piercing? I've been told it's worse than childbirth.

My wife got one. She says it's NOT as bad as childbirth (4 kids) It did take some time to heal tho. Keep it clean and you will be ok. I keep telling her that she should get "something else" pierced as well. She just ignores me and continues the conversation LOL!

Oh Well, we will be in Panama City Beach this Oct-Nov. Maybe she'll hold yer hand and get her "other" piercing at the same time :o)

Question for the women out there.

My wife is considering having her navel pierced.

I am interested in the opinions of you who have had your navels pierced as to how it affects your diving, IE. hangs up on wetsuits, etc.

I also understand that it takes several months for this area to actually heal so how does that affect diving as well?

Kevin

Before you give your wife the information about getting her navel pierced, you might want to take another look at what she has actually said and how she has said it. My concern is that your wife's desire for a navel peircing may be a subtle way of saying "you are gawking at the 'Brittney Spears' generation of women that you teach." If so, then she probably does not want to hear that you have researched the hang ups and healing issues of navel piercings.

If what have I have said above does not apply, then I sincerely appologize for taking your question out of scope.

Chris

I had mine pierced about 6 years ago, when I was 25. It never seemed to heal properly, I had it in for about 9 months and was tired of the repeated infections. It was before I became a diver as well, but I was living in a cold country and was wearing a lot of clothing and it would rub on my pants when I sat down. Anyway, I did everything I could, even bought a gold hoop to be less irritating, but I finally gave up and took it out. It healed immediately but left a keloid scar. I had that covered with a tattoo and am now happy with it.
