The LDS is offering the NTec class at the end of July. I'm considering signing up. The instructor gave me the class outline so I know what we'll be going over, but I have questions about gear requirements. He gave me a full list of stuff needed for a full tech class, but said there were some things there that weren't needed for NTec (double tanks, for example). What else can I expect to have to buy? I already dive a BP/W with a hog harness, have an Apeks regulator setup with a 7' hose and bungied backup, DIN of course, and will have purchased a pair of jet fins with spring straps by then as well. I have a DiveRite SMB too, though it seems a bit bulky even folded up so I may get the Halcyon SMB. It sounds like I'll still need reels, and I'm thinking they may require a canister light too? What else?

I do plan on going into the shop later this week to ask these questions, but I figured I'd ask here as well.

My class just required

Mask
Booties
Exposure protection (3mm full for our local conditions)
Fins (no splits)
Log book (must have 10 Nitrox dives, not sure on other requirement, might be 10 dives greater than 60ft, but not sure. Check with your shop)
Nitrox C-Card

However, this could be because my instructor has plenty of kits to go around, so your class may differ.

BTW, I have only had one night of class so far, and I felt it was completely worth the money. Even if I don't go tech, I really see this class as making me a much better diver.

That's most of the reason I want to take it. I do think I'd like to go tech at some point, but mostly I want to learn the new diving skills, as I'm sure they'd be just as useful to me in recreational diving.

Upon further review, I realized it's actually Intro to Tech, not just the NTEC configuration class. I'm talking to the instructor on Wednesday to see what else I need. Guessing I'll probably need a canister light and 2 proper backup lights, and reels. I'm wondering if I'll need a Y or H-Valve for my single tanks and a 2nd 1st stage reg...
