Word is NAUI left the WRSTC. Anyone have the scoop on what's going on? No time was wasted in removing them from the member agency page.

What are the ramifications of this, if true? Is there further information?

A very small chance that WRTSC agencies will refuse to accept NAUI certs for agency cross overs (AOW prerequisites for rescue etc) and vice versa. But I don't have a crystal ball on how they will treat each other's cards in the future.
Maybe the WRSTC doesn't have the final word in scuba education anymore?
They never did :)

I’m thinking very little negative repercussions for NAUI. In the context of US dive history, the US RSTC is the new kid on the block compared to NAUI.

I honestly perceive Darcy Kieran, as nearly a one man show, is doing more relevant and virtuous work to improve the dive industry than the US RSTC.

I’m definitely interested in @cerich perspective.

So it's basically just a self appointed popularity contest?
There is no governmental legal basis for any of this right?

That’s a good point. I guess it all depends if it was an amicable divorce.

Are you talking about Malta, Quebec or France? Then it might (very remotely) matter. Everywhere else probably not

Regarding the US RSTC, I have this image of an HOA that expects compliance when it wants something but does the absolute minimum for the benefit of the neighborhood. When it comes time for BOD nominations, I have this image of an overweight hen ceremoniously occupying her nest and officiously clucking about nothing.

Correct on no governmental oversight other than Commerce, Labor and Treasury just as any other entity. I just can’t see a Department, Bureau, Agency or Center needing or wanting to screw around with an infinitesimally small sliver of the GDP, a dysfunctional recreational sliver at that.

That's pretty much what I thought.
Originally founded by a bunch of self appointed blowhards with ego's bellowing about how they know the most therefore they must be the ones to write the rules!
And people went along with it because it seemed like a good idea at the time with business advantages?... or maybe it gave them clout?
Then comes the agency popularity contest which leads to shops buying in and charter boats buying in and resorts buying in. So it's all based on someone's hot air and bad breath?
Wow, ok
...and who exactly appointed them?
So NAUI goes further back than the WRSTC and LA county goes back before NAUI.
I'm not being a smart ass, I'm honestly trying to learn this stuff.
