Hi,

I am hoping to take a NAUI Assistant Instructor course and was hoping someone could clarify the requirements for the swim test.

I was told that it is 800 meters (16 lengths in an olympic sized pool) in 10 minutes or less. This seems really fast, is this true? Or is there perhaps a conversion error that my instructor has made since we are in Canada and most of NAUI is in the USA

Hello Bubble. I copied the following from the NAUI S&P under the Assistant Instructor section :

Swimming Skills (confined water)- Using no equipment,
demonstrate the ability to:
- Swim underwater 25 yards (23m) on one breath; no
dive or push-off.
- Swim 450 yards (411m) nonstop, any stroke, within
10 minutes and then swim an Additional 25 yards
(23m) using any resting stroke(s).
- Transport another person of similar size 50 yards
(46m).
- Demonstrate survival swimming for 20 minutes
(treading water, floating, etc.)

Skin Diving Skills. (confined and open water)- To be
performed wearing at least a wet suit jacket, a weight belt
adjusted for proper buoyancy, mask, fins, and snorkel as
follows:
- Snorkel swim 900 yards (823m), nonstop, within 18
minutes.
- Perform a Skin Ditch and Recovery (see “Details of
Selected Skills&#8221:wink:.

I hope this helps.

It is rather easy to meet the spec by just swimming sidestroke, so no ... it's not very fast.
