Welcome to the club. The download cable does work well holding my drysuit hood after a dive while I am manually extracting the data from my N2ition.

I know I'm dreaming but rather ask.

Has Sekio considered the possibility of releasing the download code?

I am sure that there will be a programer around that will be able to develop an app for iphone, Palm, Vista, 7, Mac, Linux and others.

Come on Seiko if the task is too large for you give the open source community a try.

As of today, there is no charge for the software there is no downside in allowing people to develop working dive log applications.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Please. :D:D:D

Well, I thought I would ask Santa for a Program that would work with Vista. Sorry to say, he could not come through either. I think I will ask for something easier next year. Like maybe world peace.

Seiko gave us a revamped alpha version to test last November and it did not pass our testing.

We are still waiting to hear more.

Any chance it will work with Windows 7? In the meantime my $100 clothes pin has been used as a bling necklace at holiday dive parties, it was a hit!

We didn't receive Windows 7 compatible testing software so it was not tested at this stage. The last test did show a little more promise with Vista driver compatibility issues so there was a small glimmer of hope. Primary failures were with system memory errors so they have a little more work to do.

The reviews were returned back to Seiko along with feature addition and modification requests. As soon we receive a new alpha version back from Seiko I will run it on every current version of windows (XP,Vista,7) including the 64 bit versions. If it passes the 32 bit versions we will push it to beta status and provide the release to public testers on this board first. Since Seiko is not developing a specific 64bit version, 64 bit compatibility will likely only be possible by running it in a 32bit compatibility mode or by manual modification of the install files. We can cross that bridge when we get to it.

Not that I want to spit another canned answer at you again but I assure you that everything that can be done to push this issue with Seiko Epson to a resolution is being done by the guys at Zeagle and myself.

On a personal note I have considered producing 3rd party software to download dives from the computers. If I did it would be completely independent of Zeagle and could not be supported or guaranteed by Zeagle for obvious reasons. I have held back on moving forward on this for two reasons. One is that due to the large amount time it would take developing 3rd party logbook software I don't think I would be able to release it for free. This goes against my open source thinking so as you could imagine I am conflicted here. I love doing projects like this for fun but the complexities involved are big enough that the fun would be quickly lost. The second and likely a more probable outcome is that I spend several months developing download software and just before release, Seiko or somebody else releases a similar product.

Hi Gibby,

If Seiko Epson releases the protocol I am sure that the open source community will do the rest.

Suunto has stated many times that they will not release download software for Mac or Linux. However the transfer protocols are readily available and therefore there are plenty of options. Some of them are for different OS such as Mac or Linux others are windows based third party dive logs that allow mixing computer brands in one log book. Some of them even allow the log to be published on line.

(This is one site that holds the protpcol but there are plenty around: Suunto Spyder, Vyper and Copra Protocol)

Seiko currently doesn't charge for the software as the only charge is the expensive clothes pin.

If Seiko releases the code we would still need to buy the clothes pin and potentially there could be several options available for the user. It is a win-win situation for Seiko if the code is released. I can tell you that I have several friends that will buy UWATEC or Suunto as they can use "other" software if they choose to.

We would appreciate if the idea could be presented to Seiko.

Thanks

Is there a way to reset the computer compeletly, wiping all the previous dives and resetting back to factory settings. I tried the reset button, both with the computer off and on, and neither deleted the previous dives. I also removed the battery for 10+ minutes but it still had the dive data from 60 previous dives on it. The computer has a dive I didn't do on it (Pool dive) which keeps throwing off the log book number. I can fix it by editing the DC_Log_Man file and changing the filenames of subsequent dives, but it's a real pain since it keeps adding this particular dive back in when ever I download again. There should be a way to select which dives to add to the logbook software, rather than just having to accept them all.

Hi Gibby,

Any updates on the software? I really want to start downloading those dives....

Not grilling as I understand its out of your control but its kind of sad the time its taking to get this fixed! :shakehead:

Odd enough, we recieved some new software yesterday, which Gibby will have tomorrow. He needs to run it through all his tests, etc. and then he will let us all know if it is going to work...

Cross your fingers.

:)
