The issue we have is the O ring will melt while in a fire. We need a way to weld the valve on the tank. Im not sure of any shops that will fill a tank like this, lol.

Unfortunately welding (obviously) produces very hot localized temperatures, so if you ran a bead around the neck and welded the valve on, it quite possibly could crack and blow off about the time you got it filled. Which, as you can imagine, would suck. Big time.

Hmm. A Viton o-ring is supposed to be good up to 400 degrees F, so maybe use an o-ring such as a Kalrez, Simriz, or Chemraz, they're good up to 615 and recommended for steam up to 500 degrees, so they'd be better than a viton but still not perfect for fire...

I have been looking into a soft brass o ring to replace the rubber.

Will do chief! My DM instructor told me of a guy who was completely obsessed with getting a tank to explode. He ended up shooting an old AL80 with a .30-06 rifle (pretty big gun) and it did NOT explode. It did however punch a hole in it, and the full tank drained in a few seconds, throwing out a 25-foot plume of escaping gas. He said they found the little cylinder of aluminum that the bullet punched through on the inside of the tank afterwards....quite a souvenier! (sp?)

I know of a couple of Norwegian guys who dropped a tank out of the trunk of their car (what a classic). The top of the tank soomehow came off and it just shot off like a missile. They found it 400 metres up a mountainside.

One thing I thought was amusing was they showed "Stuart's Cove" all over most of the wetsuits, but the girl was wearing an O'Neill, and they blurred out the logo. Wonder why?

You have to get permission to show a trademark or logo on a TV show.

If you watch many home improvement shows, you'll notice they don't have coke cans, or logo on shirts. They'll drink out of plastic cups and they like. This is deliberately done, as it cuts down on the number of waivers needed for the show.

If you see a logo, that company has given permission, or someone screwed up.

We had an alli 80 going off in Simonstown in the boot of a car some two years ago. The tank was in date. The car was parked and the outside temp was moderate. (No pizza oven effect in car).
The tank split open from neck to foot and was completely parted in two halves.
The car was a Merc. Total loss. The boot hatches outer skin was blown off clear the remaints of its mingled frame. Rest of the car didn't look lekker either. Wonder what would have happened to a FIAT Uno?
According to officials the tank failed due to metal fatigue. Having it tapped with a hammer a few minutes before it blew would probably have had the same result. Or shooting it a few months earlier?
