Crete is quite huge island and the dive centers access only a relatively small area. It means you can choose any places what you want from the dive site directories, but maybe the center will take you only to those what they regularly visit. Or you dive with different dive centers- I chose that way, but it's not comfortable and certainly you don't have the package discounts.

Yes, I guessed I have to go with at least 2 centers. Probably one in the north one in the south will do... (We will stay 2 weeks in the north 1 week in the south anyway)

If you find a Diving Center offering boat dives at "The Arch", please let me know : I haven't met anyone else having diving it recently.
    Thanks.
I did it 3 times independently, from shore. You need 2 tanks (or to snorkel a long way), also to cope with minimum 2 hours in the water to enjoy it that way. Still with Elephant cave (to be done with Omega or Paradise DCs) it's the best I've seen so far in Crete

Just came back (today) from a great dive with GoDiveMykonos.

First of all I must thank you for one of the best hospitality and professionalism we experienced today.
First the pick up well, than a short ride to the dive center and a warm welcoming there.

All the gear was ready and the staff carried it to the RIB boat.
A short boat trip to the first dive the wreck of ANNA II, which was a wreck worth diving to, great visibility maybe around 15-18m, and in a good condition.
The second dive took us to the LIA reef which was nice and more sea life.

After the dive my son and I had a great lunch at the nearby (not the cheapest one) Taverna and where than brought back to our hotel.

The diving equipment is in a very good condition, half wet suits 2.5 mm, wet suites 5mm, 12,15 & 18 l tanks, finns with boots or not.

I can warmly recommend this team of professional divers

    Hi ,
I am going to Greece in August and would like to know , as far as underwater ruins and the like go, which would be the top five DIVESITES.

Iam not a technical diver.....but have recreational experience.

For underwater ruins, the only one worth it I read about is Pavlopetri (South Peloponese).
I snorkeled once on a South Cretan beach near frangokastello I was advised for that but the "ruins" are so unclear it could well be natural formations if not told.
Need to check out this summer the one in Elounda (East Crete) but it's also only a few walls and columns bases

I ask frequently about best places for diving in general to experienced greek divers who visit us and usually hear : Thessaloniki (Halkidiki)area, Zakynthos Island, South Crete.

    Have fun !

Hello Jerome, could you tell, where is this Arch site? Which part of the island, close to city/beach, how to get there? For Elephant cave best is Omega - really short journey by RIB:)

    Hello Artyom,

The location and info about "The Arch", Kali Limenes, South CoastThe Arch - Diving in Crete, Greece - Wannadive.net - World dive site atlas

I dove it again last week from the East beach: snorkeling-pulling our equipment on a kayak and scuba diving the way back :)
Looked like all the medium sized fish were gone but maybe I was unlucky.

    Elephant Cave :
    Omega from Chania area.
Paradise DC if you're coming from Rethymno.

Now are the best weeks for diving from what I know : lot of fish action (dolphin fish, seriola, bullet tuna, larger schools of rabbit, breams etc).
Planning to come back in January (chances to spot sharks from what I hear

    :D Greece in general ?
Wow! You must have a huge experience then : 9000 Islands, 18 000 Kms of coastline, ... could you please share your knowledge ?
I know only a few spots in Crete and near Patras and I gladly return to most of them.

Hello Jerome, thank's for the info about the Arch.

Concerning Elephant cave - I did it from both DC's, you are right, Paradise is closer to Rethimno, but if it's windy - I would prefer to go 20 more minutes by car (with no waves) to come to Omega, compare to 40 minutes boat trip jumping on a waves:shakehead: - I did it once, didn't like. After 10 minutes of a trip I've put my mask on - been a lot of wind, waves and splashes to the eyes:shocked2:
