I sent Jax a PM with some suggestions. Seems like lots of you like running hoses so they stick out. I orient my regs so LP hoses can run straight down the side of the tank from the first stage, without sticking out or bending. inflator hoses have a nice gentle 180* loop to go back up to valves, reg hoses (7' for cave diving as I sometimes dive with BM buddies and might need to donate from either tank. I have actually donated air to a SM diver as well, when swapping tanks made no sense as we were very near the exit when the OOA occurred.) route down then do a series of bends to lay next to the tank, but not on top of each other, so I can easily pull the hose out to give me slack, then reach back and pull it back to take out the slack when I've got the reg clipped off. I use right angle adaptors on the 2nd stage so nothing has to do a loop around my head.

I also feel hose protectors and guage boots should be tossed, but of course that is personal preference.

I dislike mariner's clips in some locations due to their tendency to grab onto stuff. However, they do make sense for the tanks, as they cannot jam with sediment like a bolt snap. Jax, your bungees in the mail should come with boltsnaps, so no need to run out and buy new things.

I have been very lazy with my top dump, I just reach back and find the little string...one day, I'll get tired of that, and run another string to be able to dump more easily. On the plus side, it has gotten me to the point where I hardly fiddle with the wing. If I add too much air, I have to dump, so I've learned to be more careful with adding air, which results in less time spent on any given dive fiddling with any of it.

However, they do make sense for the tanks, as they cannot jam with sediment like a bolt snap.

Perhaps not in wrecks though, due to line-trap potential.

Regarding the inflator/OPV swap, I've decided against it, until I start going into places that are tight enough that rubbing the elbow would be a concern. I dive with dry gloves and I could never reach the OPV string quickly and efficiently, even though I had it routed carefully using a plastic tube etc (not a concern in warm water.) My worry is a stuck inflator in OW - if that happens I can't risk screwing around trying to find it.

In addition, the OPV started leaking in the top position, although if that happens you can just swap it out or try to fix it.

It's nice to be able to dump without fiddling with the corrugated hose though, and not being able to dump inverted isn't as big a deal as I initially thought it would be.

Wrecks are a different beast. We have line trap potential in caves too, but usually less lines :) In caves it can be important to be able to remove tanks. If I squeeze through a restriction then on exit find my boltsnap jammed, and I can't fit through without taking off the tank, that'd be a big problem. I've never had it happen, and I still use boltsnaps, but it is a very valid reason to consider using suicide clips on the tanks in a cave.

Jax, don't spend money on new clips if you don't have them. There's a more stable way to secure your bungees, and it costs a lot less.

Your pull dump line is going to cause you issues. It should be secured in place so it is always in the same location every time you reach for it. That is not something you want to be searching for.

Okay, I'll 'fess up. The bungees didn't arrive with the rig and I'm too impatient to wait on them. :) They'll be here, soon.

Pull dump line -- my dump wants to be pull straight out - no 90 degree so I cannot route it under the shoulder strap keeper. It takes an enormous amount of pull to dump it if the line goes sideways. I'm thinking of tying a line to the pull dump line so the end is always where I expect to find it, but so I can also pull straight away.

But if you secure the end of the line to something, anything, and tie a loop in it, or put the little nib on that loop so you have something to feel for. It may need to be pulled straight out and you can do so that way, but it is definitely a good idea to attach the line to something.

Well, I took some pic's and movies . . . If you promise not to laugh so I can hear you in AZ, I'll post them.

BTW, leave my pony alone . . . I needed to breath it down so it could be filled for my deco class.

I cannot make any promises, but I will leave the pony alone. How about that?

Jax, look at this pic.. (I think originally from DA Aquamaster) - that's how you are supposed to do it.

This (the clip, not the webbing) could be useful in retaining the pull at a proper position - I haven't tried it myself, but I can tell you that the tube will slide up eventually with just zip ties, no matter how much you tighten it up.

Webbing - Dive Gear Express

And also keep in mind it's always an option to go back to the usual configuration until you are actually making dives where you'll see a benefit... it's not like they HAVE to be swapped around.

I will wait for the experts to give their input, but I think that your tanks could be in tighter at the top.
