I have been with 2 people in the past few years when their BCD did the same thing. There were a lot of people around both times and we all helped with the problem. We never had to disconnect our hose in our OW course or AOW course. ???? Both certs are from PADI.?????????

Perhaps the instructors skipped that part, or maybe it wasn't part of the course at the time? I was certified a few months ago and we were made to disconnect & reconnect our inflator hose and practice oral inflations.

It's been a required skill in PADI OW course for about as long as there have been inflator hoses on BCDs. (Confined water dive-flexible skill.)
