The story so far:
A couple of months ago I was in the market for some new regs. I needed some for sidemount, for deco tanks, a couple of sets for my students and so on. I knew the impending sticker shock was going to jeopardize my dive medical so I was starting to look at some really odd options.
Then I heard about this newupstart start-up called Deep 6. I headed off to the website, had a look around and then found the Deep Thoughts section where the owner laid out his idea of how the future of dive retail should be.
I immediately realized that this would be something I needed to support. It also didn't hurt that the prices were WAY lower than I had been expecting. No service for two years? Free service kit with the regs? Lowest cost of ownership of everything I'd seen so far? What's not to like?
After an email exchange with Landon and Chris, I suddenly realized that Chris was in fact @cerich with whom I'd had a few pleasant conversations on this board. A few more emails and I had an idea of the fin size i would need and the best options for me to order.
Living out in the sandpit, I use a freight forwarding service which charges by weight as well as number of boxes, Chris packed everything in a single box like a scuba-Tetris game while alone in a sub-zero warehouse post Christmas, being delayed by Skype calls "just clearing up ONE more thing..." like the worlds worst Columbo.
Then it was a daily refresh of the tracking page while everything moved its way sooooooo slooooooowwly across to me.
This afternoon I got home to a BIG box on my table and unboxed.
There's a couple of review threads on here already so i won't belabor the build quality and general solidity of the regs. The proof will be in the diving which I can't wait to do. Its the first time in a LONG time that I've considered taking a regset into the bath...
As the experience continues I will post my thoughts here for good or bad, Im going to be using these in pretty much every configuration known so should be interesting. To me anyway
Herewith is the unboxing video i took, yeah thats how excited I got, never even considered doing one before and here I am like a teen with weird earrings and a youTube account.
