I'm fairly new to diving, but after 26 dives I finally had what I'd call a rare experience.
I was diving Molokini Crater in HI. My bro and I found an Octopus with the head about the size of canteloup. As we got closer, it was apparent that this creature had lost at least 4 legs, probably recently. I swam in to poke it to see if it was alive, it moved a little when my hand was about 3 inches away, and then a large moray eel sprang out of a hole in the reef right under me, and grabbed the octopus practically out of my hand.
Learned two things on this dive. #1 don't poke at injured animals, and #2, I don't have any problem peeing in my wetsuit :shocked2: .
I'm sure I'll never see something like that again.
