I think many people enjoy the peace and quiet of being underwater, being close to nature and hearing the natural sounds of the reef. Personally I think I'd prefer to keep it that way myself, but I understand why it may be nice for some divers to have music (e.g. for deco).

There are underwater earphones on the market designed for long distance swimmers, however I don't know how robust these would be under pressure. There's also the question of what is supplying the music, as many waterproof earphones connect to a device via Bluetooth, however this would not work at depth. Newly invented cochlea earless earphones vibrate and transmit sound via bone conduction, therefore removing the need for earphones and potential equalisation/trapped air problems (Audio Bone 1.0 - Audio Bone Headphones). Maybe this will be the future?
