I have an IRiver and I have used it during cave dives. You can still clearly hear sounds outside of the music so I don't believe it is a distraction for me. It has never been an entanglement hazard or anything like that either. I do however have some dive buddies that are not comfortable diving with me if I use it during an actual dive and not just for deco.....that is their choice. There is nothing better than listening to great music and cave diving at the same time in my opinion...but again...that is just my opinion.
