Jim - Never been married so am not going to give any martial advice ...

... for someone who's never been married, you sure got the nuances down pat ... :D

Oh, Mayor, are you coming to the event in February? I'll be there, and I'll be VERY happy to be the model of a small woman who is overjoyed with her "DIR" gear :)

Maybe a DIR weekend like the one that's coming up in FL might help.

I can get scooters, maybe I will try that!

Great ideas! Keep it fun!

Does your wife only dive warm water? She is welcome to try my DSS BP/W single rig if you can get her to Dutch, stay shallow in the platforms so it's not as cold.

Sam & Lynne would be perfect dive partners :)!

Any chance you can get your wife to dive with two female DIR buddies? I think it's extremely encouraging to see other women diving the gear....plus, with two other divers, she'll get a good picture of the whole idea of team diving and communication, while seeing divers in control of themselves and their gear. Obviously this can be done with a single buddy, but I find the message just a little more powerful when it's a team of three.

As others have said, it's definitely best to not try to teach anything, but rather go out and have fun doing what you've always done (albeit in different gear).

I'm not sure how long you've been diving the gear configuration and the DIR philosophy, but has she dived with you in this particular set-up? Has she been able to see differences in your diving that she might like and want to be able to incorporate in her diving (better buoyancy, ability to back away from something you're taking a picture of, more awareness to always know where she is, ability to communicate and keep your team together, etc)? If she's expressed any interest in any of those sorts of things, I think getting her into a class (GUE Primer or UTD Essentials) would be a great introduction to the gear and the philosophy.

But don't push!! :D

And you'll be out $8000.

This very thing just happened to me. My wife wanted a scooter. And because we are a team and you can't scooter while the other is kicking, I had to buy 2 scooters!

Thanks to Dive-Xtras holiday sale, I was able to get 2 Sierras for $5500. However, regular price would have put the cost over $8000.

Tried the same.

First my wife was over emotionally every time. I tried hard to make things smooth and easy but finally things warm and explode. We had strong fights and I had to do a lot of feed back to try to understand what I was doing wrong. At the end my wife is not getting any DIR at all but I gain a valuable lesson about my wife's feelings and we have now a better relationship.

So if you ask me about it worth it... definetly yes. We still do some easy dives witout thinking in her performance and we enjoy them.

These days, I dive my doubles rig when I'm at Dutch so it's not a problem at all. I can take her out for a spin if you want to avoid the spousal teacher student thingy. :D

Thanks...she is a warm water diver only so Dutch is out even at the warmest times of the year. I have built the rig and have weight pockets on order. So thanks but I'm set with gear. If she liked the gear and wanted more out of it I would have Trace or Bob work with her.

Spoke to Bob about it but it looks to be a mute point at this time. Thanks for the offer I really would like to be there. :D

I have someone in mind but the location becomes the issue.
