Hi all

I don't own my own diving equipment and am going to a 3 week divetrip with my GF. I never really paid attention to mouthpieces and how they are mounted. But would it make some sense, to buy our own mouthpieces and bring them along? are they easy to switch? That way I'd have my own piece and just switch it at the base, when we get our diving gear. Or is it a hassle and doesn't make sense?

They are easy enough to swap - cut off a zip tie and remove one mouthpiece, push on the other one and re-zip tie it. However you may not find places will let you cut stuff off their equipment. I also believe that there is more than one mouth piece size so you could possibly get one that does NOT fit on the rental reg

Thanks for the feedback!
Yeah, so I guess I'll just use the rented ones.

thanks!

When you go to rent the gear see if you can buy a new mouth piece and have them install it on the rental.
Your first gear should be a set of regulators. I hate using strange rental regs.

Going away for 3 weeks on a dive trip..sounds costly..why not spend a small amount more and get your own gear instead of renting? If renting for those 3 weeks it can cost as much as purchasing a set of gear. Sherwood scuba has a offer now of a regulator/alternate air source and spg with computer for $999.95...regular price is &1,400+...offer good to Oct 31,2011..

Thanks alot.
I did the math before, and its not worth it. 1 week will be my GF starting on her OW, so there is no discount if you have your equipment, its included.
then I checked out the prices of most places we'll go - the reduction for own gear is not that high.

I just don't dive regularly enough (here in Switzerland, I'm not interested in diving, so its almost always on "big" holidays, and thats not more often that every 3 years...)

If you stay with the supplied mouthpiece be sure to carefully inspect them for cracks, weak bite wings and so forth. They don't last forever and some rental gear has a rough life. You can always splash them with mouthwash if sanitation is a concern. Other than that you should expect no observable deterioration. If otherwise require their replacement.

Pete
