I had a camera on those cheaper coil lanyards like shown above but I'll never use the ones pictured. I nearly lost an expensive camera because it broke. Notice the coil is held on the ring by a round compression fitting. Those compression fittings come apart with no warning and don't hold much weight.

There is a better type that uses where the rubber cord wraps around the ring and then is clamped. It's much more secure and easy to inspect. Found here:
