Did a couple of dives at Morrison yesterday. We were one of the first people at the park. No one in the water yet and the platform was easily visible from the dock. There was also a significant boil above the cavern entrance. We were one of the first divers in the water and found 60'+ visibility in the basin. We ascended to find about 2 dozen divers getting ready to start their dives! By the time we got in the water for our 2nd dive visibility in the basin was less than 20'. We headed into the cavern and found we could see across the room with just a little bit of haze hanging. Happy to see Morrison is back!

Thanks. I have a class this weekend, will probably head back to Morrison to avoid Vortex crowd.

I went Sunday, aside from the 300 idiot locals doing their damnedest to destroy their new park, it was great. You could tell the visibility would have been excellent without all the traffic - as it was, we had about 30-40' in the basin with unlimited vis in the cavern.

I'll have a dive report for the weekend up tonight hopefully.

Awesome!! We plan to dive there Friday during Springfest so maybe we will miss the weekend crowd!

No scuba police at Morrison - do not think solo would be a problem. Night time I have heard they lock a gate but have conflicting information as to when it locks or if you can get past it.

Sometimes they lock it, sometimes not...

It'd suck to get your car locked in while you were underwater, something to consider.

The park is supposed to only be open until sunset. Take that for what its worth.

So even though the park is state-owned, it allows solo? Is this because it is county run?

Hmmm, having your vehicle locked in could be a major PITA.

Is the boat ramp area also inside the gate? Is diving from this ramp permissible?

I'm thinking of driving up from Panama City Beach on Monday after work with a 7 pm (CST) expected arrival time, might this be too pushing it too late? Figure that it'll be around 9 pm by the time I leave which I assume is well beyond the gate locking?

The boat launch is not behind the same gate, can't remember if there is a gate out there or not(its completely seperate and doubt it has an open/close restriction unless its due to water levels).

Last I remember, they put signs up at the boat launch saying no 'scuba' diving. Likely after we all ignored the 'no diving' signs, since we weren't planning to jump in the water headfirst.

There is parking outside the gate at Morrison. Its a longer walk... but you don't get yourself locked in.
